Applications are invited for PhD students
to conduct research in computer vision (image understanding, video
search, video mining, …). Candidates will enroll the La Salle PhD program in Information Technology and
its Management. We welcome applications from international students with a
very good grade record, who have an interest either in developing an academic
career or in exploiting research results in business.
Detailed information about the PhD program
in IT and its Management is given at the link http://www.salle.url.edu/doctorat/EN/ENG/index.html Only selected
candidates obtain a Research Scholarship
from the La Salle School of Engineering. Teaching and all activities are either
in Spanish or English, so knowledge
of Spanish is not required if you are fluent in English.
We seek self-motivated students that have a passion for learning and a desire
to push the limits of current knowledge in the field.
The successful candidate has solid programming skills and a background in engineering, computer
sciences or related fields. She/he is willing to take up responsibility in research and ready to participate in international research
projects.
Current research is mainly focused on computer vision and image understanding. I have extensively
worked in structure from motion, egomotion
estimation, tracking with deformable models, visual guidance of mobile robots
and interpretation of image sequences. I have also been interested in
multimodal interfaces fusing vision,
speech and sound for human-computer interaction (HCI). I am particularly
keen on the translation of research results into commercial prototypes through technology transfer agreements.
My former topic of research was focussed
on medical image processing. The
research contributed new results in segmentation of cell’s nucleus in images of
biopsies using methods based on mathematical morphology, segmentation of
coronary arteries in angiographic images and segmentation and 3D reconstruction
of bones from CAT images, especially using deformable models.
